Introductory Workshop in Trauma Center-Trauma Sensitive Yoga

– An Anti-Oppressive Practice

This workshop is designed for yoga teachers, mental health professionals, social workers and other health care providers who are interested in taking an initial step towards integrating a trauma informed lens in their work using the evidence-based techniques of Trauma Center-Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY).

The generative 3-hrs will provide initial tools for understanding the impacts of stress and trauma on the nervous system and how this practice of movement and breath could facilitate peace building from within, healing and integration for complex trauma survivors.

TCTSY is an adjunct treatment grounded in the western medical model with robust research demonstrating successful outcomes for those with treatment resistant Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This yoga technique is the only practice registered with SAMHSA/NREPP as an evidence-based practice.

Nicola Mosley, MSW, is a certified Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) Facilitator and Trainer. After getting her 200-hr yoga teacher certification at the Yandara Institute, Nicola pursued offering classes within many different settings. Teaching yoga combined with her profession, facilitating therapeutic wilderness expeditions for vulnerable populations and survivors of violence, Nicola started to recognize the profound role the body has within one’s path of healing. Following her passion for investigating the body's wisdom, she pursued a Masters of Social Work to explore yoga as a tool for social change. With her previous studies and background in International Development, her studies led to researching humanitarian agencies invested in trauma recovery and the use yoga as a collective practice tool. This research opened the door for Nicola to study with David Emerson, the founder of the technique ‘Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga’ (TCTSY), successfully completing her 300-hr TCTSY certification. She offers this powerful tool for healing within different roles as an Addictions Counselor and a Youth and Family Worker. Nicola is now an Adjunct Faculty of the Trauma Center, facilitating 20-hr trainings in throughout Canada.
