Vagus Yoga: Improving Your Autonomic Tone


What do diabetes, high blood pressure, digestive problems, immune conditions, chronic pain, low libido or sexual dysfunction, stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma all have in common? This spread of disorders covers such a wide variety of humanity’s most common health conditions that it’s hard to consider them all being in some way connected. However, in reality, they all share a common source point – they are all symptoms of a dis-regulated autonomic nervous system!


Our autonomic nervous system refers to the part of our nervous system which regulates all of our involuntary or unconscious body processes such as our heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, digestion, and sexual arousal, as well as the well-known phenomenon of our stress response / threat detection system which enables us to fight-flight-freeze-or-fawn in response to danger, real or perceived. When our autonomic nervous system is well regulated, we can navigate through life’s many stresses in a way that allows us to stay calm, clear, and in a healthy physical state which allows our organs to get plenty of cleansing and repair time. When we begin to get stuck in mental habits of chronic fight-flight-freeze-or-fawn responses, our internal systems and organs become negatively affected. They rely on calm, safe, and restful moments in order to complete their own repair, cleansing, integration, and maintenance. Whether we’re talking about repairing injured tissues, digesting food, fighting and preventing disease, rejuvenating our energy reserves, or experiencing a state of inner peace and tranquility without a well regulated autonomic nervous system we will face growing issues in one or all of these categories at some point!


Join me for this polyvagal theory informed class where we learn to understand how our nervous system functions, how it relates to both physical and mental health, and most importantly, how to improve your own autonomic tone and take control of your health and your life!
